ARCHITECTURE AND GLASS

Glass in a building can be used as a counterpoint or as an extension of the architecture itself. Handled correctly it can manipulate light to raise the quality of life and create a sense of well being. Narcissus Quagliata sees himself as entrusted with bringing light and joy into a public or private space. His understanding of the language of architecture enables him to truly integrate what he knows of glass as a material that can be utilized within its own environment. The goal for each site is to make the solution unique and memorable without compromising the integrity of the building’s overall design. He sees himself as an innovator, his goal being to continuously expand the existing definitions and limitations of the medium. In a sense, he feels that as he works, he not only is composing the music but also creating the instruments required for the performance. This involvement with glass in both the technological and creative levels has resulted in his being sponsored by industry to develop new creative uses for their glass. Currently he is collaborating with the Bullseye Glass Co. in developing an aesthetic language for their new fusible glass. The works presented here are in a variety of different buildings and a variety of different countries.

ARQUITECTURA Y VIDRIO

El vidrio en un edificio puede ser usado como un contrapunto o una extensión de su misma arquitectura. Manejádolo correctamente, se puede manipular la luz y crear una sensación de bienestar. Narcissus Quagliata se ve a si mismo con el compromiso de llevar la luz y alegría a lugares publicos y privados, su entendimiento del lenguaje de la arquitectura le permite realmente integrar sus conocimientos sobre vidrio como material que puede ser utilizado en este ambiente. La meta para cada lugar, es realizar una solución única y memorable sin comprometer la integridad del diseño del edificio. El se ve a si mismo como innovador, su meta es la de expandir constantemente las limitaciones y definiciones que existen en este medio. En resúmen, el siente que cuando trabaja no solo esta componiendo la música, si no que también está creando los instrumentos necesarios para tocarla. Este envolvimiento con vidrio en sus niveles tecnológicos y creativos, han dado como resultado que las industrias desarrollen nuevos y creativos usos para sus vidrios. Los trabajos aquí presentados, se encuentran en diferentes edificios y en diferentes países.
